“What do you think an artist is? An imbecile who has only his eyes if he is a painter, or his ears if he is a musician, or a lyre at every level of his heart if he is a poet, or, if he is merely a boxer, only his muscle? On the contrary, he is at the same time a political being, constantly alert to the heartrending, burning, or happy events in the world, molding himself in their likeness.”
- Pablo Picasso

10 in 10 Mixtape Series
So
I had an epiphany. I listened to friends and peers tell me I needed to create
more music in 2010. I knew I wanted to build towards the release of the second
Jim Crow Jackson album. The first one, entitled "The Jim Crow Jackson
Experiment" (available on itunes, amazon, etc.), was released digitally
(domestically and internationally) and got good feedback . Once Picasso, the
other half of Jim Crow Jackson, and I started to work on the new album I knew I
needed to up the ante. I came up with a challenge...
Create 10 concept mixtapes every month starting in February up until October.
That's 10 projects in 10 months in 2010. I call it "10 in 10". Each project
will be completely FREE! They'll be varying lengths, but each will center
around a particular theme. I'm a storyteller and I try to make that a part of
my music.
This will all end with the release of the new Jim Crow Jackson album. Picasso
and I are working hard to make the new album a great blend of Spokenword, Hip
Hop, Jazz, Blues, and Soul. Something you'll really enjoy. We want to give you
your money's worth.
So until then enjoy the freebies...Also check out my pages on popular sites
like Facebook, Reverbnation, and Myspace.
"The
Jim Crow Jackson Experiment" offers the world of Spoken Word and Rap
something fresh and innovative. The first single, "It's So Good"
featuring L.E.G.A.C.Y. proves to be an impressive forecast of the brilliance to
come. The album is a combination of Spoken Word, Hip Hop, Blues, Jazz, Reggae,
and Soul. Showcasing great writing and excellent collaborations, the album is a
force to be reckoned with and it's only the beginning.
"The
Innovator" is a collection of poems from NC poet Dasan Ahanu. Inspired by
a 2005 chapbook of the same name, this offering features some of Ahanu's
signature poems. Full of emotion, sincerity, passion, and social commentary,
Ahanu's unique perspective is on display. Not only an inside look into this
poet's mind, "The Innovator" is a critical analysis of the world we
live in.
